StoryTok vs Crayo
StoryTok vs Crayo, feature by feature
Both tools turn a script into a vertical video: a narrator reads it, captions land word by word, gameplay keeps the thumb still underneath. The differences are in what surrounds that core, how the two are billed, and what happens when something goes wrong. We publish StoryTok, so read this as a comparison by one of the two sides; every Crayo claim below is something you can check on their site.
The short version
Crayo is wider. StoryTok is cheaper to use, runs a series on a schedule and posts the result; Crayo does neither.
- Both make Reddit stories, texting stories, captions, split screen and highlight clips as 1080×1920 MP4s.
- StoryTok adds Reddit URL import, your own footage, Autopilot, publishing to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube from the web app, coding-agent access (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and per-minute billing with no expiry.
- Crayo adds AI images, face swap, a voice changer, a larger voice catalog and a content-rewards marketplace.
- Packs from $5, nothing renews
- Credits never expire
- 3 free render minutes, no card
- Failed renders and posts refund themselves

Running a channel
| StoryTok | Crayo | |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled series | Autopilot: pick subreddits and a cadence; it sources the day’s best post, rewrites it into an original script, renders it, and posts it if you turn posting on | None; the workflow ends at the download step |
| Originality | Autopilot never narrates a post verbatim, which matters under YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy | You paste and narrate what you paste |
| Publishing a finished video | Post now or pick a date and time, to connected TikTok, Instagram (Creator or Business) and YouTube accounts; every post is public and you confirm the credit cost first | Not offered; you download and upload yourself (September 2026) |
| Posting from a series | Three modes per Autopilot series: Off (default), Review first (a draft waits for you), Post automatically (opt-in, with a per-video spending limit) | No series to post from |
| Captions and titles on posts | One caption, optional per-platform override, YouTube title; a series reuses the caption you set once | Not applicable |
| Remix a finished video | Yes, reopens the form pre-filled | Projects are editable |
| Coding-agent access | Yes: an MCP server for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and Claude Desktop, plus a CLI and skill file; shows the cost before every render | No agent integration; the API is REST only and needs a paid plan (September 2026) |
Billing and what happens when a render fails
| StoryTok | Crayo | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $5 / 20 credits, $10 / 60 credits, $50 / 360 credits, one-time | $13, $27 or $55 a month billed annually ($160, $327 or $664 up front), or roughly $19, $39 or $79 month to month |
| Meters | One credit balance, two rules: 1 per rendered minute, and 1 paid credit per video per account when you post | Four: workflow credits, export minutes, voiceover minutes, AI images |
| Expiry | Never | Reset every billing cycle |
| Free trial | 3 minutes, no card; trial renders are watermarked and cannot be published | None |
| Failed job | Render credits refunded automatically; a post that fails refunds its posting credit | API docs: credits are charged on acceptance, even if the job fails |
| Refund policy | Failed renders always refund; packs are not refundable once spent | “We do not offer refunds” |
| Public reviews | Too few to cite | Trustpilot 3.2 from 186 reviews, 52% five-star, 39% one-star (September 2026) |
Developer API
Both products expose an API. Crayo’s is broader, with 34 endpoints covering image generation, voice changing, transcripts and a project model built from scenes, and it needs a paid plan because free accounts have no credits. StoryTok’s API renders the five video formats from a JSON job, lists the voice and background catalog, takes uploads, and sends HMAC-signed webhooks on completion or failure. It spends the same pay-as-you-go credits as the app. Neither API publishes: StoryTok’s posting lives in the web app, where a video rendered through the API shows up in your library and can be posted if it is eligible.
The honest summary
- Pick Crayo if you want one subscription that also covers AI images, face swap, voice changing and audio cleanup, and you will use a full plan’s quota every month.
- Pick StoryTok if you want the five video formats, want to pay only for minutes you render, want a trial before paying, want your own footage, or want a Reddit-story series that renders and posts on a schedule.
- On posting the two differ. Crayo ends at a downloadable MP4. StoryTok also gives you the MP4, and the web app can post it to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube for 1 paid credit per account.
Questions people ask
Is StoryTok better than Crayo?
For pay-as-you-go story videos, a free trial, your own footage, scheduled automation and posting from the app, yes. For breadth, no: Crayo bundles AI images, face swap, a voice changer and a content-rewards marketplace that StoryTok does not have. Which is better depends on whether you use those extras.
Do StoryTok and Crayo make the same kind of video?
Yes. Both produce 9:16 narrated, captioned videos over gameplay: Reddit stories, texting stories, split screen, auto captions and highlight clips. Output from both is a downloadable MP4. StoryTok can also publish that video to connected accounts; with Crayo you upload it yourself.
Which has more voices?
Crayo. It builds on a large ElevenLabs catalog, metered in voiceover minutes per plan. StoryTok includes 63 neural voices in 20 languages at the base rate and adds 21 ElevenLabs premium voices at double the per-minute rate.
What happens if a render fails?
StoryTok refunds the credits automatically. Crayo’s API reference states that credits are charged when a job is accepted, even if it fails, and its FAQ says it does not offer refunds.
Does either tool post to TikTok, Instagram or YouTube?
StoryTok does, from the web app: post now or schedule to connected TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts at 1 paid credit per video per account. Instagram needs a Creator or Business account, posts are public, and watermarked trial videos cannot be published. We found no posting or scheduling in Crayo (September 2026).
