OpusClip alternative
The OpusClip alternative without the monthly minutes
OpusClip is one of the best-known AI clipping tools, and for turning a two-hour podcast into a stack of scored, captioned shorts it is more polished than we are. What sends people looking for an alternative is the meter: every plan gives you a monthly allowance of processing minutes that resets whether you used them or not, and the terms rule out refunds for a period you have already paid. StoryTok meters the same thing, one credit per minute of source video you send in, but sells it as one-time packs that never expire, and makes three formats OpusClip does not: Reddit story videos, texting stories and a scheduled story series. We publish StoryTok, so read this as one side of the comparison; every OpusClip claim is something you can check on their site.
The short version
OpusClip is the stronger clipper. StoryTok is the one you do not have to keep paying for.
- Both bill the length of the video you upload. OpusClip's processing minutes reset monthly; StoryTok's credits, 1 per source minute after any trim, come from packs that never expire.
- Both post to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. OpusClip includes posting from the Starter plan up and adds a title, description and hashtag generator. StoryTok posts individual clips from the web app at 1 paid credit per clip per account.
- StoryTok also makes Reddit story and texting story videos and runs a Reddit story series on a schedule. OpusClip is a clipping tool only.
- Packs from $5, nothing renews
- Credits never expire
- 3 free render minutes, no card
- Failed renders and posts refund themselves

The same meter, sold differently
Both tools count the minutes you upload. A 90-minute podcast episode costs 90 processing minutes on OpusClip and 90 credits on StoryTok, whether you keep two clips or twenty; on StoryTok you can trim the source first and only the trimmed range is billed. The difference is how those minutes are sold. OpusClip's come as a monthly allowance, 150 on Starter and 300 on Pro, that resets whether you used it or not. StoryTok's come in packs that sit in your wallet until you use them.
Per minute, a fully used OpusClip plan is the cheaper of the two: about 10 cents a processing minute on Starter or Pro, against 14 to 25 cents a credit on StoryTok. The pack wins when you do not fill the allowance: one episode a month, a burst around a launch, or clipping alongside story videos from the same balance.
Where OpusClip wins
As a pure clipping tool OpusClip does more, and does it more smoothly. It imports straight from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Rumble and StreamYard, where StoryTok takes an uploaded file. It clips by spoken words, visual objects, sound and emotion and lets you reprompt the selection when the first pass misses. Pro adds pause and filler removal, a text and timeline editor, AI image and stock B-roll, and upscaling, none of which StoryTok has. Exports come with a title, description and hashtag generator and can be posted to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram from inside the app, as a listed feature of the Starter plan and up. StoryTok posts to the same three platforms, but you write the caption yourself and each clip costs a credit per account.
It is also the more established product, with a 4.0 Trustpilot score from 486 reviews, an OpenAPI-documented API with six official SDKs, and a hosted MCP server that lets Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT submit projects and pull ranked clips. Its MCP tools include publishing, which StoryTok's API and agent package do not. If you clip long-form content for a living, post every clip to several accounts and want editing, metadata and publishing in one pipeline, OpusClip is the more complete tool and the subscription is the price of that.
Where StoryTok fits instead
- You clip occasionally. An episode costs its length in credits and no allowance goes unused; trim the source first and only that range is billed.
- You clip in bursts. A 60-credit pack bought for a launch week is still full next quarter; an OpusClip allowance resets at the end of the cycle.
- You also make story videos. Reddit stories with URL import, texting stories with a voice per side, split screen and captions all draw on the same credits; OpusClip makes none of them.
- You want a channel that runs itself. Autopilot picks the day's best post from your subreddits, rewrites it into an original script, renders it on your cadence and can post it, stopping when the credits run out rather than charging you.
- You post a few of the clips, not all of them. Posting is charged per clip per account, so the three clips worth posting cost three credits and the rest cost nothing beyond the render.
- You want failed jobs refunded. StoryTok returns the credits automatically; OpusClip's terms do not refund fees already paid.
- You want an agent to do the work locally. The storytok-agent npm package gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and Claude Desktop the same tools as the app, with a cost estimate before every render and a daily cap per key. OpusClip's MCP is hosted and, per their page, moves to metered per-render-minute pricing after the free trial.
- OpusClip Free
- $0. 60 processing minutes a month, clipping by spoken words, watermarked captions, exports kept for 3 days at up to 1080p, one brand template.

- OpusClip Pro
- $29 a month, or 3,600 processing minutes on a yearly cycle. 300 processing minutes a month, speech cleanup, text and timeline editing, upscaling, exports kept 30 days. Team features, analytics and API are Business only.
- StoryTok
- $5 for 20 credits, $10 for 60, $50 for 360. 1 credit per minute, counted on the source video for highlights and on the finished video for everything else; posting is 1 paid credit per clip per account. Questions people ask
Is there an OpusClip alternative without a subscription?
Yes. StoryTok clips long recordings into 1 to 20 scored highlight clips, captions them, and bills one credit per minute of source video you submit from one-time packs: $5 for 20 credits, $10 for 60, $50 for 360. Nothing renews and credits never expire. It also makes Reddit story and texting story videos, which OpusClip does not.
How does OpusClip pricing work?
As of September 2026, OpusClip's pricing page lists a Free plan, Starter at $15 a month and Pro at $29 a month, with Business on request. The help center gives the allowances as 60, 150 and 300 processing minutes a month, where a processing minute is a minute of uploaded video; Pro can also be bought as 3,600 minutes a year. Free exports are watermarked and kept for three days.
Does OpusClip give refunds?
OpusClip's terms of service state that you are not eligible for a prorated refund for the current subscription period and that fees already paid are not refunded. You can cancel in account settings and the plan runs to the end of the term. StoryTok has no subscription to cancel; failed renders refund their credits automatically.
Does StoryTok auto-post like OpusClip?
It posts, with differences. OpusClip posts to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram from the Starter plan up, included in the plan, and generates titles, descriptions and hashtags. StoryTok's web app posts or schedules to connected TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts for 1 paid credit per clip per account. For a highlights job you publish the individual clips, not the zip; Instagram and YouTube need a clip of 3 minutes or less; you write the caption. Downloading the MP4s still works as before.
Which is cheaper for clipping podcasts?
It depends on volume, because both bill the length of the source. A 60-minute episode is 60 credits on StoryTok, a $10 pack, and nothing in a month you skip; OpusClip's Starter plan is $15 every month for 150 processing minutes. If you fill an OpusClip allowance every month, its price per minute, about 10 cents, is lower than StoryTok's 14 to 25 cents a credit, and its editing tools come with it.
Can I use OpusClip or StoryTok from Claude or Cursor?
Both. OpusClip runs a hosted MCP server with 27 tools for Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT, with a free trial and then metered per-render-minute pricing per their page. StoryTok ships a local MCP server, CLI and skill file in the storytok-agent npm package for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and Claude Desktop; it shows the credit cost before each render and works on the free trial.
