Tool
Make TikTok videos from Claude Code
Claude Code can already write, plan and run things for you. With one install line it can also make short-form videos: you describe the Reddit story or texting story you want, it drafts the script, picks a voice and gameplay background from StoryTok's catalog, shows you the cost in credits, renders it and saves the MP4 into the folder you are working in.
The install is a single command, claude mcp add storytok with your API key, and it registers a local MCP server that runs with npx. Nothing is hosted, there is no OAuth screen to click through, and the key spends the same credits as the web app. A new account's three free minutes are enough for the first couple of videos, so you can see the output before buying anything.
The part that makes it safe to hand to an agent is the confirm-cost rule. Every tool that renders is two-phase: called once it only returns an estimate, minutes and credits and your balance, and the tool description tells Claude to show you that and wait. Only a second call with confirm set actually reserves credits. Underneath that, each key has a rolling daily cap of 30 credits you can change, retries return the same job instead of charging twice, and failed renders refund themselves.
What comes out is the same 1080×1920 MP4 the app makes: neural narration, captions timed to the word from the speech engine's own marks, a looping background, optional Reddit intro card. The difference is where you asked for it. Crayo has a REST API on paid plans and no MCP server or agent integration, and we found none at AutoShorts (September 2026).
How it works
Step 1
Add the server
Create a key under Settings, Developer API, then run the claude mcp add line from the agent docs at storytok.ai/developers/agents (one command: claude mcp add storytok -e STORYTOK_API_KEY=your-key -- npx -y storytok-agent mcp). Needs Node 20 or newer. If you would rather not paste a key, npx -y storytok-agent login prints a code, you approve it in the browser, and the key is stored on that machine.
Step 2
Describe the video
Open Claude Code in the folder where the file should land and ask: the format, the story or a Reddit URL, the footage, the caption look, a target length in seconds. Claude checks the catalog for real voice and background ids rather than guessing.
Step 3
Approve the estimate
Claude shows the script and the estimate together, for example about 55 seconds and 1 credit against a balance of 3. Ask for changes here; a new estimate is free. Say yes and it confirms.
Step 4
Get the file
Claude waits for the render, one to three minutes for a story, reports the credits actually charged on the measured length, and downloads the MP4 to your folder. Claude cannot post it. The video is also in your StoryTok library, where the web app can publish or schedule it if it was rendered on paid credits.
Publishing happens in the web app, not the agent: how it works and what it costs
Specifics
- Install
- One claude mcp add command; runs locally with npx, no hosting, no OAuth
- Formats
- Reddit story (with URL import), texting story, auto captions, split screen, highlight clips
- Cost control
- Estimate before every render, 30-credit daily cap per key, refunds on failure
- Where the file goes
- download_job saves the MP4 into your working folder
- Publishing
- Not from Claude Code. The render also appears in your StoryTok library, where the web app can publish it if it is eligible
- Output
- 1080×1920 MP4, H.264/AAC, loudness-normalised, no watermark on renders made with paid credits
- Cost
- 3 free minutes at signup for rendering, then ~17¢ per rendered minute on the $10 pack
Worth knowing
- The MCP tool descriptions carry the confirm rule, so Claude asks before spending even if you forget to tell it to.
- Job creation is idempotent: if Claude retries after a timeout you get the same job back, not a second charge.
- A Reddit URL goes through import_reddit_post, which returns the title, body and stats for the intro card; tell Claude to rewrite rather than read it verbatim.
- The same package ships a CLI and a skill file, so a shell script or an agent without MCP can do everything Claude Code can.
Questions
Do I need to pay for anything to try this?
No. Sign up, create an API key, paste the install line. The 3 trial minutes are for rendering and work with every feature on. Trial videos carry a small watermark and cannot be published from StoryTok; renders made on paid credits have none. There is no plan and nothing to cancel.
How do I stop Claude Code from spending too much?
Three things stop it. Every render tool needs a second, confirmed call after showing you the estimate. Each key has a daily credit cap, 30 by default, that you can lower under Settings, Developer API. And a failed render refunds its reservation automatically.
Can Claude Code post the video to TikTok?
No. The agent package, the CLI and the API render and download; they cannot publish, schedule or connect social accounts. A video Claude renders does appear in your StoryTok library, and from the web app you can post or schedule it to connected TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts if it is eligible: completed, unwatermarked, at 1 paid credit per account.
